Border Update -

All of New Zealand is now at Alert 1. From Thursday, 25 February 2021, any traveller from New Zealand who has been in a hotspot for any period over the previous 14-days, is not eligible to travel on a quarantine-free (green zone) flight. |

La Nina -
The Bureau of Meteorology announced the beginning of a La Niña on the 29th September 2020, which most likely means a wet summer period for eastern and northern regions.
La Niña is a recurring event in our weather cycle, not to be confused with the warmer El Niño, that operates over periods of one to eight years. It manifests when strong equatorial trade winds change ocean currents, drawing cool water up to the surface in parts of the Pacific Ocean, resulting in a pile up of warm surface water east of Australia. This leads to a boost in convection that has a pronounced effect on the global climate.
Every La Niña event is different, but according to the BOM this time Australia is likely to see:
- More rainfall in Eastern, Central, and Northern Australia
- Decreased daytime temperatures south of the tropics
- More tropical cyclones
- Increased chance of widespread flooding
- Longer, less intense heat waves in south east of Australia
- Earlier First Rains across Northern Australia
- Less risk of fires in areas that receive more rainfall
Northern Territory

All arrivals to the Northern Territory must complete 14 days of supervised quarantine at your own expense, if you have recently been in an active declared COVID-19 hot spot. |
No Internal Travel Restrictions |
There are no internal restrictions although any non-residents wanting to go into a remote community must still follow all the requirements of land councils and local communities, including checking if you need a land council permit to go there. |

Regional Update -
- A strong high near Adelaide is directing east to southeast winds across the Territory. This high will move slowly east and reach the Tasman Sea by Friday. Less humid conditions across southern parts of the Top End will confine showers and thunderstorms to eastern and northern parts of the Top End for a few days before extending back across the Top End later in the week. A monsoon trough is also expected to form across the Banda and northern Arafura Seas this week, to the north of the Northern Territory.
- With La Niña conditions, the weather is looking wetter than average over the next couple of months.

Western Australia

- A ridge of high pressure lies in the Bight while a trough extends from the Gascoyne to central parts of the South West Land Division and towards the south coast. The trough will move to eastern WA later this week, while a weak cold front and middle level cloud band moves over the southwest corner of the State.
- Low-Moderate / High Fire risk.
- Quite extensive road works being undertaken on the South Coast Highway over October and November.

Regional Update -
- A high 1026 hPa over western Victoria will remain near stationary for a couple of days, then move slowly eastwards to be centred over the Tasman Sea by the end of the week. A low pressure trough will move over the south and west on the weekend, with a new ridge of high pressure to follow.
- Birdsville Inside Track Closed due to flooding (updated: 24/3/20).
- North East of state - Floods closures, Most tracks closed due to floods. (updated: 24/3/20).
- Road Works: Road Sealing - Strzelecki Track (472km). The SA government will seal the first 50-kilometres, Starting just north of Lyndhurst (until late 2021).

Regional Update -
- A high pressure system over southwestern Victoria will move slowly eastwards today. The high will then remain near-stationary about the east coast during Thursday and Friday, directing a warm northerly airstream across the State. On Saturday the high will move away into the Tasman Sea as a weak low pressure trough approaches, moving into southwestern Victoria late in the day.
- Haunted Stream Track: Haunted Stream Track - Tambo Crossing is closed. DELWP are undertaking repairs. Reopening will be dependent on weather conditions.
- High Country: Seasonal Closures have finished, with tracks reopening from 30/11/20.

Regional Update -
- An area of high pressure will persist to the north of Tasmania today, with a west to northwesterly flow over the state. A cold front will weaken as it slowly crosses Tasmania later Thursday, with a trough to lie near the north of the state late evening. An area of high pressure will cross Tasmania Friday morning, before moving over the Tasman Sea later in the day as north to northwesterly winds freshen. A cold front will move over Tasmania later Saturday in a strong and gusty west to northwesterly flow.
- Upgrading the Bruny Island Ferry Terminals. Construction of a second ferry berth to take place Sep 20 - Mar 21.

New South Wales/ ACT

Regional Update -
- A high pressure system near western Victoria will drift slowly east during the next few days, to be over the Tasman Sea by Thursday. The presence of this system will promote stable weather across most of New South Wales this week, with daytime temperatures gradually increasing and showers restricted to parts of the northeast. A low pressure trough looks set to cross from the west later on the weekend, potentially deepening off the northern coast early in the new week.

La Niña -
More tropical Cyclones than normal. Prepare earlier - Rain expected a month earlier, more than 70% chance of above-average rainfall and increased flood risk.
Regional Update -
- A high over southeastern Australia extends a ridge over much of Queensland while a weak trough remains slow moving over the interior of the state. The high will move eastwards and enter the western Tasman Sea over the next couple of days, strengthening the ridge along the east coast. The strength of the onshore southeasterly flow will be further enhanced by a trough that will slowly deepen over the central Coral Sea. An upper low is expected to develop over the state late in the week, likely leading to more unsettled weather for most eastern districts over the weekend.

- Most of the West coast is closed to beach driving (Updated 31/03/21).
- Look and listen for aircraft landing and taking off along the eastern beach. Follow direction from the ground control crew.
- South West QLD : Camerons Corner Road, Cameron Corner - Floods - Vehicle access is closed to all vehicles and will remain closed until further notice (updated: 24/03/21).
