Road Closures & Track Conditions - 8th October 2021


Interstate Restrictions
  • Travellers who have only spent time in a low-risk area in the 14 days before arriving in Tasmania do not need to quarantine when they arrive, (excluding the high-risk areas).
  • Current border restrictions of high risk areas can be found here.
  • Low-risk:
    - NT, WA, SA*, QLD*
  • Medium Risk:
    - (N/A)
  • High Risk:
    - ACT, NSW, VIC
    *= a number of premises have also been declared as high-risk

La Niña -

More rainfall during spring and summer, wetter soils and an increased chance of flash floods. Reduced bushfire risk with reduced extreme heat waves.

Regional Update -

  • A high over the Southern Ocean extends a ridge south of Tasmania as a broad area of low pressure moves over the southeast of the mainland today and Thursday, over Bass Strait on Friday, then to the east of Tasmania on Saturday.
  • Upgrading the Bruny Island Ferry Terminals. Construction of a second ferry berth to take place Dec 20 - Sep 21.

New South Wales/ ACT

Border Update -

Interstate Restrictions
  • Travelers from VIC and ACT are not allowed to enter into NSW. Guidelines in place for travellers from interstate hotspots. Updated 08/09/21
  • You must complete an NSW entry declaration form if you are entering NSW after 5pm on 27 April 2021, and in the previous 14 days have been in any interstate hotspot suburbs.

Internal Travel Restrictions
  • There is currently a 5km limit on the distance that a person may travel in Sydney, NSW Health recommends non-essential domestic travel should be avoided. 
  • Stay-at-home orders are in place across the state of NSW.
  • Affected regions have restrictions in place.

La Niña -

Regional Update - 

  • A high pressure ridge extends over the state and a broad area of low pressure lies to the state's southeast. A cold front is expected to cross the state on Thursday.
  • HAZARD Road damage: Tibooburra to Toona Gate - Toona Gate Rd - Exercise caution - Traffic affected in both directions.. (Updated: 06/10/21).

Queensland

Border Update -

Interstate Restrictions
  • Interstate restrictions are in place. All travellers must complete a Queensland entry pass to enter Queensland from anywhere in Australia or New Zealand
  • From 23/07/21, NSW, ACT, JBT and VIC are COVID-19 hotspots. (Updated:06/10/21).
  • Restricted Border Zone with NSW in place

  • No restrictions on internal state travel.

La Niña -

More tropical Cyclones than normal. Prepare earlier - Rain expected a month earlier, more than 70% chance of above-average rainfall and increased flood risk.

Regional Update -

  • A weak ridge extends over most of the state, while a weak trough will move eastward across the state from late today, likely moving offshore of the southeast Queensland coast on Friday or early Saturday. Late this weekend into early next week, another trough is likely to be accompanied by a more amplified upper trough, lending support to more widespread showers with possible thunderstorms and rain areas across southwest and southern Queensland.
  • Cape York: Peninsula Developmental Road - Road Works - at Archer River Road.
  • Fraser Island:

    • Areas of concern - Eurong beachfront, Eli Creek, Maheno, Lake McKenzie, Waddy Point beachfront Wathumba and Orchid Beach. Due to increased human-wongari interactions, extra vigilance is required in these areas.
    • Most of the West coast is closed to beach driving.
    • Look and listen for aircraft landing and taking off along the eastern beach. Follow direction from the ground control crew.
    • Planned burns: QPWS rangers will conduct planned burns in the K’gari (Fraser Island) Recreation Area from April until September 2021.
    • Fraser Island report - 28th September, 2021.
  • South West QLD : Warry Gate Road - Road closed to all traffic -Between Noccundra through to the NSW border (updated: 06/10/21).
